Thank you for your interest in the CHSCA Student Exchange Program.
It was a great success to conclude our trip to Hsinchu, Taiwan from April 12 to 21, 2013. All 25 students from Cupertino and 4 adults had a wonderful time in Hsinchu. Everyone came back to US with a life-tim memory and tighten friendships with friends and families in Hsinchu. We look forward to another great year for Cupertino Hsinchu Sister City exchange program.
To apply to be a student delegate, you will need to:
Have your parent/guardian sign the application form.
Obtain a letter of reference on the forms provided from two current classroom teachers (one of which must be a core-subject teacher). The teacher must submit the letters through the district delivery system to Jeremy Nishihara at the CUSD District Office or Kate Jamentz at the FUHSD District Office.
The reference letters must be submitted by Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Write a short essay (100-200words) answering the following question: Why are you interested in participating in the exchange program and what are the three most important things you would like to learn or experience from this trip to Hsinchu?
Attach two recent photographs: one for the student and a second one with the family.
U.S. passport and travel document are needed for student traveler.
The cost for the roundtrip airfare and related expenses is estimated to be $1,450.00 per student traveler.
Students who hosted in October 2012 receive priority to be considered to join the 2013 delegation.
The student interview will be held on Monday, February 11, 6:30-8:30 PM.
Selected students will be notified no later than Wednesday, February 20, 2013 via email.
Your application packet, which includes the completed application form, short essay, and recent photographs must be submitted by:

Below is some helpful information for Cupertino students who are visiting Hsinchu city.
Food and drink
Drink boiled water or bottle water.
Don’t drink water from faucets.
Watch out for food you have never eaten before.
Be ware of your allergy status.
You can ask the host parents how they do their laundry.
They may not have a dryer.
Do not litter.
Be courteous to others.
You might sleep with some other people.
Wear slippers. Do not wear shoes in the house.
Be very careful when crossing the street.
Traffic rules may be different than the once we have in the U.S.
Don’t go out alone. For safety, always be with others.
During tours, always stay with the group so you don’t get lost.
It is important to be on time when meeting the group or with others.
Mind your behavior in the classroom and the school.
Prepare some small changes to bring with you for the city tour.**
Please bring gifts for your host family, a gift for your hosting student and the classmate.
See’s candy, Vitamins (e.g. Centrum, move-free) are all welcomed there.
Each student can have two carry on luggage ( example: one backpack and one small rolling luggage that can fit in the storage compartment)
Each student can bring one check in luggage (50 lbs or less)
Be aware that you might need space to store gifts and things you buy on your trip.
We will stop by currency exchange at the airport in Taipei, you can exchange your US dollars to Taiwan currencies.
